​In Concert With Glass

Comprised of hundreds of pieces of thin, lacey-looking, kiln-formed glass, Mourning Cloak explores the sorrows and sadnesses (from the everyday little hurts to the life-altering periods of grief) that we collect and carry with us as we move through our lives. Becoming part of us, these sorrows may lessen over time but remain and live with us — they are the flutterings and shadows in the background of our minds that come to the fore when triggered. Through the unique material qualities of glass, Mourning Cloak considers the inherent polarities and contradictions in sorrow and grief — where there is great sorrow and mourning, there is also great love and joy. There is weight and burden, but there is beauty too in carrying these sorrows, while we continue with the living. Mourning Cloak is loaded with direct and indirect references in its gestural details and in the overall impressions of the full garment. It is a wearable work of art exploring the body as a vessel of emotion and memory. Two years in the making, it was just completed in June 2026.
